Patient Information

Welcome New Patients

When you visit for the first time you will be asked to complete the new patient paperwork. This is easy to complete however, requires information regarding your Medicare number and Health Fund membership details (if privately insured for Hospital cover, not extras).

Dr Adam Blond operates on a weekly basis at the Buderim Private Hospital. If you do not have private insurance, we are able to provide you with a quote detailing what Dr Blond’s fees will be, your Medicare rebate and out of pocket expenses. We will organise Buderim Private Hospital and our Anaesthetist to email you a separate quote for surgery.

Office Hours

Dr Adam Blonds offices are open 8:30am – 4.30pm for phones, Monday to Friday. Consulting hours may vary on weekdays.                                                                                                                                                              Ear, Nose and Throat patients are seen by appointment ONLY.                                                                    Patients must have a current referral from their Doctor.

At least 24hrs notice is requested for cancellations or changes to your appointment as we have an extensive waiting list of patients.

If a request is urgent the GP should contact Dr Blonds offices immediately (via referral or phone call) about organising an appointment. When scheduling appointments the urgency of medical concerns is seriously considered.

After Hours

In the event of an emergency, patients are asked to go straight to the Buderim Private Hospital or to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital. After surgery, patients are given Dr Adam Blond’s direct 24hr contact number for medical emergencies. For routine matters, he will return your call as soon as he is available although he may not be able to return calls until the evening.

Fees

Fees are based on the scale recommended by AMA and the Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery. Patients are always given an approximate idea of fees to be charged prior to appointments or surgery.

Extra costs

If a procedure is performed at the time of the consultation, you may be charged extra for this. Procedures include ear toilet, biopsies and endoscopic examination of the larynx and pharynx using a fiberscope. Your Medicare rebate will cover between 80% and 100% of the cost for these services

How will I be charged and how should I pay?

At the end of your consultation you will be issued with an invoice, which is to be paid at the time of your consultation. You may pay with EFTPOS, credit card (MasterCard and Visa only) or cash. You will be required to pay the whole cost of the consultation. If you are registered with Medicare we will put your claim through to Medicare and your rebate can be directly paid into your nominated bank account.

Operational Costs

There are a number of fees and charges that are involved in the operation costs. These cover: Surgeon, Anaesthetist, Hospital, Other – Medications, X-Ray, Pathology etc

Dr Adam Blond will provide you with an estimate of fees relating to Dr Blond’s proportion of the proposed operation. In most cases it will be an accurate estimate but depending on operative findings, fewer or additional services may be required and these will result in altered charges. The estimate provided will outline the total fee, the rebate from Medicare and your Health Fund (if you have private insurance) and the ‘out-of-pocket’ expense for your procedure.

The anaesthetist can also give you an estimate of their fees if you contact them and give them the item numbers that will be listed on the estimate from Dr Blond. The hospital will be able to provide estimates of bed costs and extra costs factoring your private insurance cover where applicable.

Surgery

If you are required to attend surgery, the patient will receive information about their medical procedure and processes. This will include what patients should avoid, such as food and drink, at least 8 hours before the operation. In addition to this Dr Blond will inform you of how to proceed and prepare for your visit to the hospital.
